The Tier 1 category allows highly skilled people to come to the UK to look for work or self-employment opportunities.
Applications are made by individuals directly to United Kingdom Visa and Immigration (UKVI), and not through employers.
When you apply, you are awarded points based on your qualifications, previous earnings, UK experience, age, English language skills and maintenance funds.
If you hold a Tier 1 visa, the University can employ you without sponorship provided your visa allows you to undertake the type of work you are required to do and your visa is valid for the duration of the contract.
The Tier 1 Category has 5 sub-categories as listed below:
- Tier 1 General – now closed to new applicants and for extensions
- Tier 1 Exceptional Talent
- Tier 1 Entrepreneur
- Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur
- Tier 1 Investor
The Tier 1 (Post-study work) category closed to new applicants in April 2012.
